ProTect Athletics, in partnership with ProTrain College, is proud to announce the upcoming launch of a premier professional credential: the Director of Athletic Safety (DAS). This program features a series of five intensive, three-day micro-credential courses designed to transform how sports organizations approach athlete wellness, shifting the focus from reactive treatment to proactive, data-driven prevention.
In an era where player safety is under the microscope at every level—from youth leagues to the pros—the DAS certification establishes a professional standard for risk mitigation. The curriculum is built on the philosophy that athlete safety is a technical discipline requiring a deep understanding of human mechanics and environmental hazards.
The DAS program is structured into five core courses, providing a comprehensive toolkit for the modern safety professional:
- Course 1: General Introduction to Athletic and Sport Safety – An entry into the landscape of modern sports safety and the evolving responsibilities of the DAS role.
- Course 2: Anatomy and Physiology – “Got to know it to protect it”; establishing the biological foundation necessary to safeguard athletes from injury.
- Course 3: Kinesiology and Ergonomics – Analyzing how the body moves in a sports context and understanding specific athlete muscle groups to optimize protection.
- Course 4: Risk, Hazard, and Root Cause Analysis – A technical deep dive into understanding how and why incidents occur, operating under the mantra that “there is no such thing as an accident.”
- Course 5: Putting It All Together – The capstone experience focused on implementing these strategies to make athletics safer, one incident at a time.
